February 10th Bossaphonik continues on Friday 10th Feb with the 9 piece brass band phenomena – "HACKNEY COLLIERY BAND."
Following on from the 2 brass bands hosted at Bossaphonik in the last 2 years – Horndog and Brassroots, the HCB are a brass sensation currently terrorizing the UK's streets and stages with their loud, funky and mobile sound.
Formed in 2008 by a group of London horn players (in a hackney kitchen), they were inspired by New Orleans marching bands, Balkan brass and contemporary hip hop influenced brass bands coming out of the US, they decided it was time for a British take.
Three 7 inch releases and their self-titled debut LP have been released on renowned London label, WahWah 45s, which have received DJ air play by the likes of Gilles Peterson on radio 1 and have been in DJ charts worldwide. Their repertoire includes stomping covers that we all recognize along with original compositions by several of the band members.
